Plan your business model
Planning is the key to any successful business. A right
business model can get you started and would put you on
the right track without any initial setbacks. Estimate
your expenses and income and target your profits towards
the end of the financial year. A business model with out
proper financial planning can sometimes give out
shocking results. Finally if this is going to be an
exclusive work from home job, plan accordingly within
you resource at home, mainly time and infrastructure.
Choose the right expertise
Don’t be like a fish out of the water, get working in
the area of you expertise. Don’t just end up working in
a field alienated to you just because you have a lot of
references from people earning money in that area, you
might end up loosing most of the initial investment and
lower your self-esteem. Just because you are a good
content and a copy writer don’t end up in website design
and programming field. Be wise and choose appropriately.
Organize yourself
The foremost step once you initiate working from home is
to be organized. Right from your time scheduling,
maintaining notes, invoices and receipts should be
primed and filed accordingly. Modernize you office, get
the latest and affordable desktop and a good cable.
Unless you want to loose time working on a slow outdated
machine and sending files over dialup. Don’t leave the
printer and the fax machine behind. Maintain you work
desk, give yourself enough space and work in a healthy
environment. Keep enough office supplies in reserve and
get yourself some business stationery, you never know
when you need to correspond with a client or hand out
your business cards.
Adhere deadlines and maintain quality
The most important step in any work atmosphere is
maintaining a strict deadline. Achieving deadlines and a
quality product could differentiate you from other
competition. Work as per dates planned before. If
something is not going right and could be delayed,
inform the client beforehand and give him the reason for
delay. Don’t sacrifice quality just because you want to
finish the job on time. Plan you time and dates
according to your work ability. A happy satisfied client
will not only return back but also would extend your
services to other customers. Increased business equals
to increased income.
Enjoy you work
Finally enjoy what you do. I guess that’s the reason why
you want to work from home and not in an office with a
tetchy boss. Give reasonable time for work and family
and strike a balance between the two.
